Sarah Gardner began her health librarianship career in the voluntary sector, first running a local learning disability information centre, then as Head of Information at Headway, the national brain injury charity. She then switched to the NHS with 10 years with NHS Direct, taking on local and national health information roles before leaving to focus on a career in clinical librarianship at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHSFT. She jumped regions in 2015 for her current post in South Yorkshire for DBTH, based at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.
During the COVID pandemic, she joined the COVID search bank as a peer reviewer, and in 2022, took a part time NHS England secondment as Project Officer for Expert Searching, with the development needs of expert searchers as the focus. A recent output has been the formation of the Learning Academy Library.
Sarah’s current professional interests include chair of Northern Lights editorial committee, (the Northern blog for knowledge and library staff), peer support for critical appraisal teaching, and teaching in, baking for and facilitating a variety of hospital departmental journal clubs.
